Froese Genealogy Page

On pronunciation: Froese is a German family name, spelled this way (as opposed to using an umlaut) for many generations. It is pronounced frözə (stressed on the first syllable.) Since the umlauted ‘o’ does not exist in English we pronounce it with a long ‘o’. We understand that many Froese families settled in the Midwestern US and Canada generations before us and call now themselves ‘phrase’ or ‘frazy.’

Thanks to a distant uncle in Potsdam (formerly of Köln,) Hans-Jörg Froese, I now have a family tree going back to the 1700's. My ancestors are all from a corner of East Prussia called Memelland (now part of Lithuania.) My father and grandfather were born in Windenburg and everyone prior to that in a small fishing village called Nidden. I am very excited about this, since before this time I did not even know the name of my great-grandfather!
